Kenner Sod Installation

Getting ready for summer is easy as ever when you get new sod installed in February. Everything comes down to giving the sod time to grown roots that are in the ground. The sod roots do not have to be extremely deep but an inch or two will be great to start going into the summer.

Getting your sod down takes a few extra steps if you want it to start quickly and healthy. Get your soil amendments put in before you set the new sod down. If you need to get sand or compost into the soil make sure you work that into the soil prior to setting down the sod. Get your new sod started fertilizer down under the sod. It does not matter what time of the year you set your sod down, you should always use starter fertilizer. The sod has been shocked from the cutting of its roots and needs extra fertilizer to get a jump on making new roots. While you have the ground loose and ready get it leveled out best u can and fill your low spots with a nice soil mixture.

Getting everything to last after that will include tons of water for three times a day approx 30-45 min each time depending on the temperature and rainfall. If you do not have a home sprinkler system then you need to be prepared for this with hoses and sprinkler heads. This means go and get more than one hose and more than one sprinkler. When you have two sprinklers you have cut down the time it will take you to manage the sprinklers three times a day for a week.

After the first week you can cut you water schedule down to twice a day @15-30 minutes each time depending on temperature and rain fall. Getting enough water without making water pool up is key to getting your new sod to put down new roots in your soil fast. The faster the sod makes new roots the healthier it will be and faster the grass will grown in thick.
